Eventhough this territory got the rank of a wine region only in 1990, vine growing here has had a tradition of several centuries. The climate is a little cooler here, with a lot of sunshine, which favors the production of white wines. The region is famous for making sparkling wines. The best-known products on the market are the Törley champagnes. It is worth visiting the round cellars and the nice German houses of the previous century, several old, precious winery tools can be found in them. Due to its proximity to Budapest the Etyek-Buda Wine Region makes an ideal day/ half day trip. Plan your visit during the Etyek Cellar Festival held in May or during the Etyek Gastronomic Festival held in the end of September.
Etyek-Buda Wines – Chardonnay is the leading variety, followed by Savignon Blanc, Riesling, Szürkebarát (Pinot Gris) and Olaszrizling (Italian Riesling), Rhine Riesling – elegant, dry, definitely acidic, light wines with fine fragrance.
Etyek is about a half-an-hour drive from Budapest
